Setting up the Worlds we will explore over the next 12 weeks
3 Worlds, 12 Stories, infinite possibilities!
Who wants some free Stories?
Brr- it’s chilly today! Not really, considering that is almost mid-November and it is just now beginning to feel like a winter chill. But compared to last week’s light sweater-weather, having to wear my parka for the first time this season is jarring! Oh well, roll with the seasons, right?
In case you missed yesterday’s post, “Bear Right, Left Frog!”, I did some bellyaching about my state of mind, time of life, and announced that I’m taking a break from trying to get published and instead writing short stories for fun.
I’m going to move on from the bellyaching now, and get into the fun stuff.
Tarot-fic Stories
Okay, I know, it’s a corny play on words. But you get the idea, right?
13 Weeks
3 worlds
12 stories plotted with my tarot decks
1 week to finish each one.
How it will work:
Each week I will do a live post (If I can figure out how to do that!) where I will pull a card out of my hat to tell me where this week’s story will take place. (Spoiler alert! There are 3 worlds, and I will do 4 stories for each world! But the hat decides which world is featured each week.)
THEN I will use 1 or more Tarot decks to give me the bones of the story. I plan on mixing up the way I use the cards. It could be a simple 3 card pull or a more elaborate spread- but honestly, the simpler the better. I really like to let the characters take over and grow naturally in my head.
I will comment about the cards and what the story might be, but anything could change! I will have a week to write 1 story, 5000 words or less, to present the next week before we do it all again!
Why not join me?
Here is an open invitation! Why don’t you join me? Take the cards I draw and write your own story in a world of your own. The more the merrier!
My 3 Worlds
Here are small descriptions about the worlds I have created. Since I’m looking at this like a world building exercise, I don’t want to get too detailed. The more you read the stories, the more you will learn about each. Besides, since I’ve spent years creating them- it’s impossible to tell you everything in a paragraph! LoL!
Fenhallow
World #1 is a place I created with my daughter and her classmates one year when I got to lead them in creating their own short fantasy story. Basically, I wrote the opening scene, read it to two different classes, then asked them to vote on what should happen next, like a choose your own adventure story. We did this several times in order to finish the story- and with two classrooms voting separately, the two finished stories were very different and so much fun! I enjoyed the premise of that story, and the main characters so much, that the world of Fenhallow and the Council of Worlds was born.
Imagine a place where animals of all kinds are brought to be rehabilitated. Got it? Now imagine that place is actually for magical creatures- fauns, fairies, unicorns and more. Add in the fact that these magical creatures come not only from Earth, but from other realms that have been discovered by Travelers- intrepid explorers who utilize magic beans to travel and discover new realms in the name of Peace and Friendship.
Fenhallow is a magical way station that is both hospital and sanctuary for any and all magical creatures who need help. Lexi Wexford is the daughter of the Traveler and magical Caretaker who run Fenhallow. But our stories could be about anything within this world- maybe even in a different realm. Who knows?
Aethos, City of Wonders
Welcome to Aethos- a mechanical wonder of a city, where everything but the humans- even the animals- are made of cogs and sprockets, steam and aether. Built many, many years ago by an enigmatic genius who wanted to protect his little sister from life threatening allergies, Aethos grew from a solution into a progressive powerhouse that creates airships and automatons and amazing technology of all kinds. It also provides protection from the dark faeries who live close by in the Tricksy Wood.
Paranormal Times
This world is solidly settled right here on Earth- and whatever may be just beyond the veil. Paranormal Times is the name of a Youtube channel created by five high school sophomores with varying degrees of belief in the paranormal. Every weekend they search for a new place to haunt with their ghost hunting equipment. The energy can get pretty electric- especially between the kids!
Get ready…Get set…GO!
I am going to go figure out how to do live posts on Substack. I think that’s a good place to start. As soon as I have that sorted, I will let you know when the kickoff will be, and we’ll get writing!
If I have confused the heck out of you, I apologize. Sometimes my mind works faster than my ability to be understood. The take away? I’ll be writing stories soon, I’ll let you know when.
Hope you are having a fabulous Fall!
Cheers,
Terri
